Being the good aunt that I am, I took my nephew to see Rise of the Guardians. I had no interest seeing a movie that portrayed a sword yielding Santa Clause and an Easter Bunny with an attitude, but I went anyway. You can imagine my surprise when I found myself digging in my purse to find a tissue. In fact I had to dig a few times.
At the core, this movie is about keeping hopes, dreams and imagination alive. Jack Frost, Santa Clause, the Tooth Fairy, the Easter Bunny and Sandman are the Guardians. The Guardians are immortals with special powers whose job it is to protect the dreams of the children of the world. When an evil spirit, Pitch, threatens to take over the world by filling the children with fear, it is up to the Guardians to find a way for the children to once again open their hearts, use their imagination and believe.
When I left the theater with my nephew, I looked at him and vowed to be a guardian of his hopes and dreams. I think we all should be Guardians. I think the world would be a much happier place if we all vowed to help protect the hopes and dreams of not just the children in our lives, but of everyone we know. When someone tells you their dream, vow to stand with them. Help them fight off fear and the naysayers of the world.
So are you ready to be a Guardian? The first step in the initiation process is a simple one, watch the movie.
