The Shawshank Redemption

The Shawshank RedemptionThe Shawshank Redemption was one of the first movies I was going to recommend when I decided to post inspirational movies to feed the SOUL.  I didn’t do it because I thought it was a gimme, too easy for this creative thinker and movie buff.

BUT, the other day, I was having a chat with a friend and they said they had never seen the movie.  I was shocked.  This is one of my go to people for inspiration.  I was going to sentence this person to an afternoon of movie watching, but I’m not one for force.  So here’s a little enticement for that special friend to watch The Shawshank Redemption.

The screenplay is based on a short story by Steven King, so right off the bat you know the story is solid.  Speaking of story, this is one of hope.  The main character is Andy Dufresne.  Andy is a banker who is sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his wife and her lover.  Andy befriends a long time inmate, Red Redding.  Red is the prison entrepreneur, the guy who can get things. Though prison life is hard, Andy refuses to lose his spirit, lose hope.  The movie follows these two friends over time and demonstrates how Andy’s mindset influences the whole prison, especially his good friend Red.

Andy and Red are played by Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman respectively.  I personally don’t miss many movies with Morgan Freeman.  He’s the real deal.  I mean the dude even played God twice.  Don’t get me wrong, Tim Robbins is stellar, but Morgan Freeman anchors the film so incredibly well.

So, my friend who shall remain nameless, I hope I’ve inspired you to give The Shawshank Redemption a watch.  Your path to inspirational movie redemption is yours to walk.

52 Recipes to Feed Your SOUL – Week 1

sg recipes (3)-r

Happy 2014!  I decided to kick-off the new year with a new weekly feature, 52 Recipes to Feed Your SOUL!  Each week you’ll find a new fun recipe to Feed Your SOUL.  Turns out these recipes are heart healthy too!

Now some of you who have been on a spiritual path for a while might be saying, “Karen, why does the soul need feeding?  The soul is our source.  It feeds us.”  My answer to that is I agree, but I look at our relationship with the soul as a symbiotic one, meaning we need each other to survive and thrive.  I believe the more fun you have, the more love you share, the more kindness you put into the world, the more you invest in your own dreams and vision, the more the soul will feed to you.

So get ready for some good ole SOUL Food in 2014.
